In 1965, Tom Jensen entered the transport industry as a Management Trainee in General Commodities.  He excelled in this role and was shortly thereafter promoted to Eastern Regional Manager.  Around 1976, Tom began working for a different carrier and migrated to the Heavy & Specialized side of the industry where he quickly elevated to Regional Vice President.  In 1988 Tom resigned from that carrier to join TRANS AMERICAN, where he would apply decades of knowledge and experience and demonstrate the value of relationships with European markets.

Is TRANS AMERICAN a carrier or broker?

We are an asset-based carrier.

What is an asset-based carrier?

A carrier who owns and operates their own equipment inventory.

Is TRANS AMERICAN a Public or Private corporation?

Trans American Trucking Service, Inc. and subsidiary Trans American Export Packing, LLC. are privately owned corporations.

What services does TRANS AMERICAN offer in addition to trucking?

We provide warehousing and outdoor storage, container stripping and transloading, export packing, boxing and crating both on and off site, NCB inspections and can also accommodate special requests.

Is TRANS AMERICAN well known and respected?

Yes, having been in business since 1976 we’ve earned and maintained a bulletproof reputation for our trucking, warehousing, import and export services. TRANS AMERICAN is one of the few Heavy & Specialized trucking companies with decades of experience hauling freight up to 150-Tons throughout the congested Northeastern United States.

What are your cargo limits?

By weight we can transport 300,000lbs per piece. By volume we have 550,000 sq-ft combined indoor and outdoor storage space.

Who operates your warehouses?

We own and operate our warehouse and packing facilities that are staffed with TRANS AMERICAN salaried employees.

How does TRANS AMERICAN obtain trucking permits?

We have inhouse procurement and conduct our own route surveys. Our Permits department and escort drivers work closely alongside our truck drivers and dispatch personnel to ensure every move is completed efficiently and on-time.

Is TRANS AMERICAN authorized to transport Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT)?

Yes, we are permitted under FMCSA rules to transport HAZMAT classes 3, 4, 8 and 9.

Does TRANS AMERICAN have multiple terminal and warehouse facilities?

We have facilities located in New Jersey, Maryland and New Hampshire.

Does TRANS AMERICAN insure my shipments?

Yes, subject to terms & conditions of the Rules Tariff 300. For further information contact your Trans American sales representative or our insurance and safety department.

What forms of security does TRANS AMERICAN utilize?

Our facilities are safeguarded by 24/7 video surveillance, and we rely on private security in addition to municipal law enforcement. We do not use canines.

Does TRANS AMERICAN have foreign and/or domestic agents?

We have a select few European agents. We do not have domestic agents.

Are your rates negotiable?

Within reason, dependent upon volume and activity.

Does TRANS AMERICAN ever joint venture projects?

Only when the job requires equipment beyond the scope of our own assets. For example: cranes, licensed riggers, union labor, or special security requirements. Joint venture partners must meet our high safety standards and be financially sound.

What if I have special needs, requests, requirements?

Come meet with our warehouse and packing manager as well as our transport engineers. TRANS AMERICAN is confident that we can present a safe, economical, and logical solution. We have the tools, knowledge and experience to get the job done on time and within budget.
